31 MINUTE READ
November 22, 2022

Trip Overview

Vice President Kamala Harris visited the Philippines from November 21 to 22 with Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff to reaffirm the U.S. commitment to the defense alliance with the Philippines and strengthen our economic relationship. During the trip, she met with President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos, Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio. To demonstrate our continued support for human rights and democratic values, Vice President Harris met with civil society activists and participated in a moderated conversation with an audience of young Filipino women.  The topic of the conversation was “Empowering Women and Girls,” the first event of its kind she has done overseas since taking office.

On November 22, Vice President Harris traveled to Puerto Princesa, Palawan, where she met with residents, civil society leaders, and Philippine Coast Guard officials.  This is a historic visit, as Vice President Harris is the highest-ranking U.S. official ever to visit Palawan.
