U.S. Embassy in the Philippines hosted award-winning filmmaker Dana Nachman for “Batkid Begins” Film Screenings and Talks

The U.S. Embassy in the Philippines and American Film Showcase (AFS) brought award-winning documentary filmmaker Dana Nachman to the Philippines to screen her documentary film “Batkid Begins” and hold Director’s Talks at universities and SM Malls in Manila and Cebu from October 3-6, 2017.

The U.S. Department of State’s AFS program helps bring award-winning contemporary American documentaries and independent fiction films to audiences around the world, offering a view of American society and culture as seen by independent filmmakers.

Nachman’s documentary “Batkid Begins” is about Miles Scott, a five year old boy with leukemia whose wish was to be Batman.  On November 15, 2013 the Make A Wish Foundation and thousands of volunteers joined forces to turn San Francisco, California into “Gotham City”, the fictional home city of Batman in one of the largest and most elaborate Make-A-Wish projects ever.  More than a billion people took to social media to cheer on BatKid!  In all, the #SfBatKid and #BatKid hashtags reached more than 1.84 Billion people on Twitter and Instagram.
