Remarks by U.S. Ambassador Sung Kim after the Presentation of Credentials to President Duterte

as prepared

Mabuhay!  I am very pleased to have just met with President Duterte and formally presented my credentials.

It is an immense honor to be in the Philippines and to have the opportunity to contribute to one of America’s most enduring partnerships.

At the heart of our partnership is the deep bond between the people of our two countries.  There is indeed tremendous kalooban… extraordinary spirit, warmth, and strength in our relationship.

In addition to our people-to-people relationship, our economic ties are longstanding and extensive.  I am enthusiastic about the potential to grow our two-way economic relationship.

Over the weeks, months, and years ahead, I look forward to working closely with the Philippine government and Filipino people to expand our relationship and to engage in the many areas of mutual interest.  This important relationship is based on mutual respect.  This respect combined with the close ties and shared history and values will ensure stability in our relationship over the long term.

I am eager to get to know the Filipino people, to travel from the rolling hills of Batanes to the beaches of Tawi Tawi, and to experience your rich culture.

I would like to thank President Duterte for the warm welcome.

Maraming Salamat!
