Manila, February 14, 2014 — The United States Embassy Manila, in partnership with Miriam College and the National Council on Disability Affairs, will be hosting a day-long conference at Miriam College’s Marian Auditorium entitled “Creating a Persons with Disabilities Sensitive Environment” to raise awareness of issues facing persons with disabilities.
Keynote speaker Wendy Ashby will discuss disability advancement and education from a global perspective. Seminars include educating children with disabilities; reducing poverty and increasing employment opportunities for people with disabilities; and creating positive and inclusive environments.
U.S. Embassy Manila and the U.S. State Department support inclusion and advancement of people with disabilities. This forum is made possible in part through a grant from the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs.
The National Council on Disability Affairs, in collaboration with Philippine government agencies, and disabled people and civil society organizations, has also launched a campaign on disability-inclusive development.
