Project Summary: The Project brought together selected members of the International Council of Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), members of ICOMOS Philippines, local government officials, local tourism operators, and managers of historic sites in the Philippines in a workshop on the conservation of the Rice Terraces of the Philippine Cordilleras (also known as the Banaue Rice Terraces), The workshop, where case studies and activities promoting local preservation consciousness were extensively presented, led to the development of a manual to support the conservation of the Rice Terraces by: a) increasing public awareness on its extraordinary importance as a cultural site; and b) detailing practical, affordable conservation measures to be implemented by local government officials and other stakeholders.
Citation: The Rice Terraces of the Cordilleras is included in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites List. It is also listed as National Cultural Treasure in the Philippine Registry of Cultural Properties.
