Message for U.S. Citizens:  Report your U.S. Passport Lost or Stolen Online

We hope your travels are always safe and pleasant, but we know things sometimes don’t go to plan.  If your passport is ever lost or stolen, the Embassy and Consular Agency are here to help.  We encourage you to report the loss or theft of your passport to the local police and to the Department of State.  You may report your passport lost or stolen online through the Department of State website.

Please be aware that if you report your passport lost or stolen, we will immediately cancel it and report the loss to travel authorities worldwide.  You cannot use it for international travel even if you find it later, so be sure to search your home, hotel, or surroundings thoroughly if there’s a possibility that your passport has merely been mislaid.

Reporting your passport lost or stolen does not automatically replace your passport—a lost, or stolen passport can only be replaced by applying in person at an Embassy or Consulate.

To apply for a U.S. passport, please visit our website.
