DCM Klecheski Swears In New Peace Corps Volunteers

MANILA, Philippines—Deputy Chief of Mission Michael Klecheski administered the swearing in ceremony of two Peace Corps Response Volunteers on August 8, 2018 at the U.S. Embassy.

The Response Volunteers, who hold the title of Data Management and IT Security Specialists, are part of the U.S. Peace Corps – IBM innovative public-private partnership launched in December 2015. A team from the IBM Corporate Service Corps Program and Peace Corps Response Volunteers will work hand-in-hand enhancing information systems with their local counterparts from the Department of Science and Technology and Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI).

The Peace Corps Response Program offers short-term specialized volunteer assignments for Americans with technical expertise for high impact projects. Globally, the five broad program areas where the Peace Corps Response Program provides assistance are: (1) disaster preparedness and mitigation; (2) disaster relief and reconstruction; (3) humanitarian assistance; (4) children, youth, and family; and (5) HIV/AIDS.

Peace Corps Philippines also recently signed a memorandum of understanding with the DOST-FNRI. (Read here)
